Riot Games has announced two new additions to Ignition Series, a part of Riot backed esports tournament series meant to bring their latest PvP title Valorant in esports limelight.
The first of the two tournaments are organised by WePlay Esports. six professional European esports teams are invited to compete against each other. There are a total of eight slots in the tournaments, two of which are open for public. The tournament will kick off on July 13 with two separate single-elimination brackets for the spot of one of the two qualifying teams.
The two qualifying teams and the six invited teams will proceed to the Swiss Bracket group stage starting on July 15. The six invited European teams include PartyParrots, fish123, Prodigy, Ninjas in Pyjamas, G2 Esports and forZe. The top four teams will proceed to the next stage. The semifinals will take place on July 18 and the tournament will wrap up on July 19. A hefty prize pool of $50,000 will be distributed among the top four teams.
WePlay’s Ignition series is a unique mix of open qualifiers and invite-only tournaments, although it favours invite-only stratosphere. The open qualifiers round will act as chance for up and coming Esports teams to go head to head with the professional and established teams.
The second of the two tournaments is based in the North American region. Pax has teamed up with Riot Games to host PAX Arena VALORANT tournament from July 22-26. Unlike WePlay’s unique blend of open qualifiers and invites, the Pax Arena will be an invite-only tournament. A total of twenty teams will compete for a prize pool of $25,000, including sixteen pro teams and four influencer squads. Unfortunately, no official names have been announced yet but we can expect to see big and known teams at the tournament.
The four-day-long tournament will begin on July 22 and the top eight teams will advance to the single-elimination rounds quarterfinals on Friday, July 24. The semi-finals will take place on the following Saturday among the top four teams. The best two teams will compete in a best-of-five Finals on Sunday, July 26, for a chance of winning $10,000.
The first two days of the tournaments, that are the qualifying rounds to determine the top eight teams, will be streamed on the participants’ respective Twitch channels. Pax Arena’s channel will take over on Friday and stream the rest of the tournament on their Twitch channel.
