Antonio Meić, the CEO of CR4ZY announced that the company has decided to terminate its contracts with all the esports team under its umbrella due to COVID-19 pandemic. For the remainder of 2020, they will be focusing on smaller esports projects and products and formulating strategies for the upcoming year.
CR4ZY had a promising year ahead of them at the beginning of 2020 as they were expanding into what they “considered most opportunistic esports disciplines,” namely CS: GO, Dota 2, and Rainbow Six: Siege. But all that changed as the COVID-19 pandemic
took over the world and the esports scene radically changed.
Most of the major tournaments of the tournaments were either moved online or cancelled altogether. The online format put CR4ZY at a disadvantage since due time differences and high ping. The management was against the idea of players travelling overseas, lest they were stuck in a foreign country indefinitely in the case of a lockdown.
Hence, to cope with the situation, CR4ZY has terminated the contracts with all of its esports teams. In their defence, this is a good move since the players will be free to seek new teams without any transfer fees or fines. Meanwhile, the company will retrospect its strategy for the upcoming years.
As for players, there haven’t been any official responses so far. It’s safe to imagine that there were mixed reactions across the rooster. The ones who had offers to switch teams and were eager to do so would probably view this a good move. However, for the rest, it may be disappointing news since esports is a very competitive stage and opening in new teams are rare, even for experienced players. It’s yet to be seen if CR4ZY will draft the same teams again in 2021 if they were available.
